Are you making the right choices?

This week’s parsha, Vayeshev, has a moment that hits close to home for many of my clients.

The brothers decide they’ve had enough of Yosef. They want him gone. Reuven’s horrified by the plan, but he’s not strong enough to stop them.

Instead of taking a stand, he looks for a workaround. He suggests they throw Yosef into a pit so he can circle back later and secretly save him.

His intentions are good.

His timing is the problem.

While he’s gone, the brothers sell Yosef.

Reuven comes back, looks into the pit, and realizes he missed the moment to act.

Later was too late and he loses his role as the oldest son because he couldn’t take responsibility when it counted.

Sound familiar?
