Welcome everyone to 2020! It is around this time of year that people start to talk about and make resolutions. This time of year many people are thinking of ways to bettering their lives – whatever that may mean for them. It could be anything from weight loss, eating healthier or spending more time with the family.

So in this blog post I want to talk about a couple of ways that can help you reach your goals, which actually take a lot of organizing!

Before we dive in, I think it is important to note two things: preparation is key and perfection is the enemy of done. Preparation is the secret sauce to being successful when you want to complete a task. Trying to get everything perfect can hinder your progress because you could feel defeated.

Now with these two things in mind the first step is trying to figure out different ways how you can reach your goals.

Let’s take trying to be more organized for example.

You could possibly:

Think about your options, then let them simmer for a bit. After you discover the best method for you to reach your goal then you can figure out your timing. WHen will you make time to achieve your resolution? I highly suggest writing your intentions down as this makes them real.

Time management for your resolution:

  • Write it out in a Calendar
  • Create a schedule
  • Set a time limit for your future tasks
  • Create to-do lists

Try and be real with yourself and what way of time management will work best for you. It doesn’t matter what the end goal is – what matters is being true to you and figuring out the best way possible to reach your goal. This includes tools that you will need, who will best support you, and any additional information you need to gather in order to be successful.

Sit down with a piece of paper, or diary and think about the following:

  • Your goal
  • What your desired outcome will be
  • How will you feel when you reach your goal
  • What will it feel like when you are trying to achieve your goal
  • Even employ all your senses in this exercise – imagine smells, tastes, and feelings.

Like I previously mentioned writing it out is a method that can be a huge factor in reaching your resolution. By having something tangible written down, this makes it really easy to get back on track when you feel like you have fallen off the wagon. Simply read what you have written at the start of your journey to feel the inspiration and desire that you once had at the start. Recall the memories, refocus, and reimagine yourself. Maybe something has changed as you made progress, or maybe you didn’t make progress so you need to adjust a tool or method.

Using a journal to keep track can really help you get to your destination.

Another great way of writing things down could be with spreadsheets. Especially if you use Google Sheets (Google Drive’s online version of excel) your sheet and progress will automatically be saved online saving you paper and worry of losing your work.

Congratulations! Now you are well on your way to crafting the best plan to reaching your goals!

I think the most important thing while moving ahead is to remember that with resolution making goals is the easy part. Reaching your goals and having the right support is key to successfully achieving the ideal end result.

Also keep in mind that there will be bumps along the road. Forgive yourself if you don’t get to your goal in the timeline you wanted. Just take a deep breath and set a new time or re-strategize. Remember, we always want progress not perfection, improvement is also a valuable thing and is important, any movement is good!

Good luck on your journey!
