When My Crown Fell Out (and What Noach Taught Me About Time Management)
Sunday night I was eating dinner with my kids when the crown on my tooth broke and fell out.
It’s literally a recurring nightmare of mine that my teeth fall out.
I texted my dentist.
I needed an emergency appointment, and she got me in Monday afternoon.
She couldn’t fix the crown because my gums were too swollen.
I was disappointed, but I reminded myself that Hashem’s plan is always the best plan and that everything works out for me.
Finding Calm in the Chaos
In fact, I already had my regular checkup set for today, so I didn’t have to reschedule all the things on my calendar just to squeeze in an appointment for myself, which probably would have really stressed me out.
All I had to focus on this week was self-care and reducing the inflammation in my gums and believe that by Thursday we could actually fix it.
Then Monday night one of my kids had a medical issue that needed immediate attention.
My amazing husband set up the appointments for her, and because Hashem’s plan is always the best plan, even though I ended up not running Tidy Together sessions, it was fine, because strangely, no one had signed up for those times.
If you were an outsider looking at my week, you may think, she has a hole in her ship, but actually, I didn’t feel out to sea…
I just kept feeling like everything always works out for me… It might not look like what I planned, but somehow it always comes together.
Lessons from Noach
And that’s when I thought about Noach.
G-d told him to build an ark and save the animals; that was his purpose. But I find it hard to believe that Noach had a real idea of what was coming.
I truly wonder, could he understand the scope of a world underwater?
He didn’t know how bad the flood would be, how long it would last, or what life would look like after.
All he could do was his part.
G-d gave him the plan: gather, build, and organize for years before he even saw a drop of rain. Then he had to manage hundreds of animals, supplies, and his whole family in a floating zoo.
Can you imagine the logistics?
When Structure Misses the Point
In contrast, we then see the Tower of Bavel.
Those people had structure too, incredible coordination and teamwork, but their goal was all wrong.
They wanted to reach G-d to compete with Him, not connect to Him.
When your goals are aligned with the right purpose, even hard work feels meaningful.
When they’re not, everything starts to crumble.
That’s what this week reminded me of.
After the chagim, everyone’s trying to get back into routine, back to their goals, but feeling off-track.
Building Your Own Ark
So here’s my question for you:
What are you doing and why are you doing it?
And maybe more importantly, what would make it easier?
And you probably don’t want to hear this, but Pesach is in about 160 days.
So what if you started building your “ark” now?
If you clear the clutter and set up systems early, imagine how much calmer you’ll be when the crunch time hits — fewer responsibilities, more breathing room, more peace in your home.
Managing time doesn’t prevent emergencies, but it lets you pivot without panic.
From Panic to Perspective
I’ll be honest, when my crown fell out, I definitely had a mini panic attack. It’s literally one of my nightmares, teeth falling out everywhere. (Do you get that one too?)
But once I realized my teeth weren’t actually falling out, I could put it in perspective and find a solution.
